The relationship between the Tamura family and restaurant business
had began before Mr. and Mrs. Tamura set foot
on American soil. Working in the service industry in
Japan, Mr. Tamura had been inspired by American dreams. Mr.
and Mrs. Tamura decided to immigrate to the U.S. , and settled in Chicago
in the late 70s. They made
their first mark in 1978 by opening "Shino Restaurant"
on State St. and Huron St., named after Mrs. Tamura's
business name. Shino Restaurant was an instant
success! It was the first Japanese restaurant
in Chicago to serve hospitality and decor with
European influences. Several years later, a devastating fire
destroyed the business, and the Tamuras fell upon difficult times. Determined for another
chance, they forged the next extraordinary idea for the city of Chicago: Cafe Shino,
the Chicago’s first traditional Japanese karaoke bar.
Opened since 1986, Cafe Shino has been serving many customers in a
style of traditional Japanese fashion with karaoke, piano,
and their ambiance.
